Gay and lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney valued at $30m
The Sydney Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras generated almost $30m for NSW as 21,000 visitors came to join in the pride celebrations this year according to a report in the age.
The Mardi Gras festival, held in march had an estimated 300,000 lining the route of the parade this year bringing in a tourist revenue of $29,548,761, with around 21,000 visitors from interstate and overseas, staying an average of 3.9 nights an 10.5 nights respectively.
17 million viewers across the country followed the event via TV and radio broadcasts. The new CEO of Mardi Gras Anna McInerney said "We are delighted at the results this research has delivered, not only do they demonstrate what a major draw Mardi Gras is and its economic significance to the state, but they also help us understand our audience better."
